Ausrobot has appointed Mr Robert Jackson as General Manager with effect 7 January, 2008.

 

Ausrobot has elevated Mr Robert (Bob) Jackson to the position of General Manager. Bob Jackson joined Ausrobot as Product Manager in March 2005.  Bob is an ex Army Officer with over 30 years experience in the Australian information and communications electronic sector.  He has held numerous technical and management positions in the Australian Army Corps of Signals including material acquisition, C4ISEWR projects, command and operational staff positions. Since leaving the Australian Defence Forces, he has been actively engaged in the Australian communications electronic industry, undertaking appointments with business development, product development and management positions in leading Australian and international companies.

Ausrobot awarded contract to provide a Canine Training Support System (K9TSS) for the new Australian Federal Police (AFP) canine training facility, Canberra.

Ausrobot was selected to provide the K9TSS, in support of the new multi-million dollar, AFP Canine Training Facility in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. After an extensive international search for a suitable support system, Ausrobot was approached by the consulting architects to design, develop and manufacture a bespoke system to meet the specific needs of the AFP.

 

The system consists of a number of remote controlled reward delivery mechanisms, which are positioned to support high grade stainless steel floor and wall mounted scent receptacles. A 32 station system is to be provided under the contract, and has wider applications within the Canine training systems for other law enforcement, military and commercial security providers.

Ausrobot relocates to new premises

Mitchell in the Australian Capital Territory is the new location for Ausrobot. Mr Lew Starita (MD) stated "the new premises consolidates our mechanical engineering facilities with our electronics and software engineering facilities. Manufacturing and ILS will also be managed from the same facilities offering efficiencies and greater collaboration between R&D and operations".

HAZMAT UGV

 

Ausrobot today released the new Beagle, which integrates three (3) chemical/combustible material sensors onto the tried and proven Ausrobot 1st Responder platform.

“Beagle fills a much needed capability gap for HAZMAT teams when investigating dangerous incident sites”. Mr Rod Kinnish, Ausrobot R&D Leader reported. “Sensor readings can be displayed on the UGV control station, and alerts for exceeding thresholds may also be broadcast across the communications network.

Australian Bomb Data Centre Conference

Ausrobot was again invited to the Australian Federal Police’s Australian Bomb Data Centre (ABDC) Conference. The role of the ABDC is to "collect, collate, interpret and disseminate data gathered from within Australia and overseas, concerning explosives and incendiaries, whether commercial, military or improvised".

Mr Rod Kinnish (Ausrobot) and Dr Brian Jarvis (Defence Science and Technology Organisation – Weapons Systems Division) presented “The Changing Roles of CIED Robotics – from first response to disruption” to approximately 250 national and international delegates.

Technology License Agreement

Defence Science and Technology Organisation today granted Ausrobot a world wide licence agreement to manufacture and distribute XMUTS and RAIDER UGV platforms for five years. The products are a culmination of several years investment by DSTO Weapons System Division to develop UGVs to support the Australian Defence Force operational requirements.

Mr Robert Jackson (Ausrobot) stated that the agreement demonstrated “a wonderful example of how Industry and Government can work together to further the national interests”.

Land Warfare Conference

"Professional Mastery in the Complex Warfighting Environment" was the theme for this conference where Ausrobot demonstrated products to support "Soldier of the 21st Century" and "Precision Fires in the Complex Battlespace: who owns the bomb?".

Ausrobots 1st Responder Series was also displayed with the Australian Army Network Centric Warfare as well as DSTO Weapons Systems Division.

"Mobility, speed of deployment as well low entry price point were the main differentiators which conference visitors identified with the UGVs" said Mr Justin Hatfield of Ausrobot.

Counter IED Task Force


Ausrobot presented 1st Responder capabilities to the Australian Defence Force Counter Improvised Device (CIED) Task Force. The CIED TF has been established as a "centre of excellence" to provide a joint force intergrated and coordinated CIED approach.

"Rapid prototyping of CIED robotic applications and Defence relationships were the primary focus for the CIED TF with Ausrobot" said Mr Rod Kinnish (R&D Lead) after the one day workshop.

Special Operations Forces Defence Exhibition (SOFEX) - Jordan

Ausrobot demonstrates its products at SOFEX, the only exhibition and conference held in the Middle East dedicated to homeland security, especially special operations.

The size and capability of Ausrobot UGVs received widespread interest on the Australian Industry stand. The exhibition hosted official delegations from Iraq and the Coalition.

Ausrobot signs DSTO Collaboration Agreement

Ausrobot is pleased to announce the signing today of a mutual, collaboration agreement with the Australian Department of Defence, Defence Science and Technology Organisation for the collaborative development of a new unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). The agreement requires both parties to contribute to the development of a new UGV capability which is aimed at assisting the Australian Military and other Australian government agencies in a range of operational scenarios.

The agreement will last for a minimum of 12 months and may be extended with the concurrence of both parties. Mr Lew Starita, Director of Ausrobot said "The signing of this contract reflects the mature capability of the company's R&D and the significant similarities in approach and methodologies that exist between DSTO and Ausrobot's approach".

"We are pleased to see this cooperative agreement as another form of recognition by the Australian Government of Australian industries' capacity for innovative development in high technology." said Mr Starita.

Commercial Ready Grant Approved

Ausrobot is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Commonwealth Government Commercial Ready Grant in the amount of $427,000.

Federal Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane in his press released said that "Ausrobot's project, when commercialised, has applications for military, security and anti-terrorist activities.

It's another example of cutting-edge Australian innovation that just needs some extra help to make it to the marketplace - and this Government is committed to providing that support."

The Commercial Ready Scheme is a competitive, merit based national program which supports innovation and the subsequent commercialisation of technology. The grant will provide funding for salaries, contracted expenditure, plant, and prototype and pre-commercialisation development necessary for the commercialisation of the robotic vehicle.

The grant provides a dollar for dollar basis for ongoing research, development and commercialisation of the prototype surveillance, reconnaissance and detection robotic vehicle. The project will provide; enhanced sensor integration, adaptive mobility and autonomous navigation, improved HMI and an extended range communications capability.

Ausrobot acknowledges the invaluable contribution that the staff of AusIndustry have played in assisting the development of the grant application and the Federal Government and AusIndustry for their on-going support.

Australian Bomb Data Centre Conference

Ausrobot was invited to the Australian Federal Police’s Australian Bomb Data Centre (ABDC) Conference. Ausrobot displayed its SAMUVI range of unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) which included Inspectabot (R1) and Sentry (R1D1) which gained interest from delegates and other exhibitors for their small sizes, low entry price points and easr of deployment.

Ausrobot joins RPDE program

Today, Ausrobot as part of the Frame Group joined the Rapid Prototyping Development and Evaluation (RPDE) Program. The program is a group of focussed problem-solvers helping Defence resolve difficult and challenging bite-sized problems.

Ausrobot demonstration to Attorney General

 

Today, Ausrobot presented to the the Hon Philip Ruddock MP, Attorney General. Mr Ruddick observed the operation and deployment of a low profile UGV with several cameras which carried out inspections in confined spaces and low light within his office.

Mr Rod Kinnish stated that Mr Ruddick was very impressed with the sensor resolution and ease of deployment. Under vehicular inspections were discussed along with national and international roles.
